Gianluigi Buffon is expected to announce his retirement from professional football on Thursday. The 40-year-old veteran Juventus goalkeeper will hold a press conference and he will probably call time on his incredible career.
Buffon stated earlier in the season he would stop playing at the end of the season, unless Juventus would win the Champions League and he could be winning a FIFA Club World Cup in the following season, two trophies that are missing from his massive and impressive trophy cabinet.
Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in the quarter final and Buffon was sent off the pitch with a red card after referee Michael Oliver awarded the home side a penalty in the dying moments of the game. Buffon has won Serie A on nine occasions and been capped 176 times by Italy.
