Godin: Experience doesn’t count when you play in a final

Atletico Madrid faces Olympique Marseille in the Europa League final on Wednesday. Despite having played multiple European finals in his career, Atletico defender Diego Godin feels it does not give his side an advantage as finals are ‘games on their own’.

“All games and finals are different and even playing in them before doesn’t help you win without playing”, Godin looked ahead to the game. “What matters is what goes on in your head, heart and legs, so we must be ready for the obstacles we’ll be presented with and play the best possible game.”

The Uruguayan feels his side is well equipped to beat Marseille. “We’ve seen Marseille and they have midfielders who play a very direct and intense game, with good players on the wings who can make a difference. We will try to hurt them because we have the players to match them.”
