Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has urged star forward Antoine Griezmann to make a decision about his future. The French forward scored a brace on Wednesday evening in Atletico’s 3-0 win over Olympique Marseille in the Europa League final.
Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona, but is yet to make a decision. When asked about the possible transfer Gil Marin told Cadena SER: “If he wants to make history at Atletico Madrid where everything revolves around him or go to a club where he will never enter history.”
The CEO added: “If he decides that he does not want to continue with us, we have to respect his decision. I am not optimistic or pessimistic. I do not know what will happen, it is not a decision for him to say after the final.” Barcelona are reported to have agreed terms with Atletico for a 115 million fee.
Despite the reported agreement, Gil Marin has hit out at their rivals amid their public pursuit of the forward. The club released a statement for Barca’s ‘lack of respect’ and the CEO still questions Barcelona’s actions. “It does not make sense what they are doing,” Gil Marin said. “After the statement, Bartomeu has not answered me.”
