Reports from Italy claim AC Milan are set to be banned from the Europa League next season. The Italian giants were taken over by Chinese investor Yonghong Li, who used a 300 million loan to complete the take over from Silvio Berlusconi. According to the UEFA, the loan is against FFP regulations.
Since taking over the club, Milan’s finances have been declining and after spending nearly 200 million on transfers the club could be failing the Financial Fairplay regulations by the UEFA. Milan and the UEFA tried to negotiate a deal, but last week it was confirmed that the negotiations have failed.
The UEFA is most concerned about the €300-million loan, which has to be repaid in full in October with interest for a total of closer to €380m. The European football association is trying to tighten the regulations of the FFP and is planning to ban similar loans out of football.
