Southampton have confirmed that they signed forward Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel on a five-year deal. The 23-year-old will make the move from the Swiss giants in a deal reportedly worth 18 million. Elyounoussi is the replacement for Dusan Tadic, who completed a move to Ajax several days ago.
“The club has been following me for a long time, watching many games, so I feel really confident to come here and to get even better and develop myself,” said the new Southampton man. The Norwegian international scored 23 goals and produced 30 assists in 83 appearances for Basel.
Southampton boss Mark Hughes is delighted the forward has signed for Southampton. “He has got an outstanding record of goals and assists in two different countries, and we have been extremely impressed by the intelligence he has shown in his play from a tactical point of view.”
