The European football association UEFA have followed FIFA’s example of introducing a fourth substitute in games that go to extra time. The rule has been introduced at this year’s World Cup in Russia and that has impressed the UEFA enough to update its rules.

The fourth substitute will also be available for teams that play in the UEFA Super Cup, the Women’s Champions League, Europa League, European Championship and European Women’s Championship.

The UEFA has also decided to change the rules of the UEFA Youth League and the Under-17 and Under-19 European Championships for men and women. From next season and onward, teams are allowed to use five substitutes per game.
