Chancel Mbemba has completed a permanent move from Newcastle United to FC Porto. The DR Congo international has left St. James’ Park after three seasons for an 8m fee. The 23-year-old centre-back has signed a deal until the summer of 2022 at the Portuguese giants.
“I will give everything for this club”, the central defender told the official FC Porto website. “For me this is a massive step in my career. Everybody knows Porto and I can remember when I was in Afrika when Porto won the Champions League in 2004. I am very happy that I have been given the chance to play for this club.”
Manager Rafa Benitez told Sky Sports Newcastle needs to sell players in order to fill their own transfer budget and that is the reason they decided to part with Mbemba. “We have to wheel and deal. That is the way for us. And then we try to continue doing the right things.”
