Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says he is not confident his club will land players on the final day of the English transfer window. The Red Devils have been looking for a new central defender over the course of the summer, but have failed to complete any signings thus far. Earlier attempts to sign Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich and Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur failed.
Leicester City’s Harry Maguire is still linked with a move to Old Trafford and could still complete a move to United. However, Mourinho is not expecting any new faces in his squad before the end of the transfer window. “I’m not confident,” he said at a press conference ahead of United’s first game of the season against Leicester City on Friday. “The market closes today so there’s time at least for me to stop thinking about it.”
“I will have to focus on the players I have in relation to the first three matches, because after Spurs there is an international break and I have a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare them better. I have to focus on the players that are available. We go with everything we have in that first match. Nothing will happen before the transfer window shuts? The information I have is no.”
