Atletico Madrid are reportedly closing in on agreeing a new contract with Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Cadena Cope reports that the Spanish club has made Oblak an offer to extend his contract beyond the end of his current deal in 2021.
The 26-year-old was recently labeled as ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’ by his manager Diego Simeone and now it appears Atletico are eager to extend the shot stopper’s deal, despite his current deal will not expire for at least 2,5 seasons. Oblak is still considered a leading candidate to join Manchester United if David de Gea ever decides to leave the club.
Though Atletico want to keep hold of their goalkeeper beyond 2021, the club’s main reason to start negotiations for a new deal appears to be his release clause, which is set a €100. The club considers this fee as attainable by top European clubs, hence Los Rojiblancos seeing a need to bolster this fee.
