Arsenal will not be completing any permanent signings in January, claims Gunners boss Unai Emery. The Spanish manager has the task to lead Arsenal back into the Champions League next season, but now says he will not be given the funds to strengthen his team during the winter window.
“We cannot sign permanently,” he added. “We can only loan players. Only loan players.” Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega, who worked with Emery at the Spanish club. Emery added: “I know this player and he’s a very good player. I cannot tell you more.”
The reporters then asked Emery about the rumours on FC Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, who has also played under the Spaniard at Sevilla. “I don’t know his situation now,” Emery said. “We can only sign players later on. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now.”
