AS Monaco have completed the signing of William Vainqueur. The French midfielder was expected to complete his transfer from Turkish side Antalyaspor earlier, but his medical delayed the confirmation. On Saturday Monaco confirms that Vainqueur has joined the club on a six-month loan deal.
The French side states that Vainqueur suffers from a calf injury and that could have canceled the transfer. The 30-year-old has managed to convince his new club that he will return to full fitness before the end of January and now he is able to join up with his new teammates in the South of France.
Vainqueur has had earlier spells in the French Ligue 1 with FC Nantes and Olympique Marseille. The midfielder also enjoyed spells with Standard Luik, Dinamo Moskou en AS Roma. In the summer of 2018 he joined Antalyaspor. He has played a total of 29 games for the Turks.
The French midfielder is Monaco’s fourth winter signing after the club confirmed Naldo (Schalke 04), Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea) and Fodé Ballo-Touré (OSC Lille). Regelation struggling Monaco is expected to welcome more signings this winter. The 2017 Ligue 1 champions are interested in signing Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi on loan from Chelsea.
