Leeds United are close to complete a transfer deal for Spanish goalkeeper Kiko Casilla. The promotion contenders have been looking for a new shot stopper ever since on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman broke his tibia in November. It is believed Casilla could be signed at the beginning of next week.
Leeds initially were close to sign Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow, but the two clubs could not come to an agreement on a deal. And now Casilla has emerged as Leeds’ top target after the 32-year-old dropped to Madrid’s third choice goalkeeper after the arrival of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea.
Casilla developed through the Real Madrid academy, before joining Espanyol in 2007. After eight seasons at the Barcelona based club, he returned to Real Madrid in 2015 in a €6m deal. Leeds United currently sit in first place in the Championship with 54 points from 27 games.
