Atletico Madrid forward Gelson Martins appears to be on his way to join AS Monaco on a six-month loan, claims Diario AS. The Portuguese winger joined Atletico last summer in a free transfer from Sporting Portugal but has failed to claim a spot in Diego Simeone’s first eleven.
The report claims that Atletico need to space up their wage budget in order to complete the signing of Alvaro Morata from Chelsea. With Monaco offering to pay the full wages of the Portuguese international, Atletico is prepared to let him join the Ligue 1 relegation battlers on a loan.
Martins has skipped training at Atletico on Thursday and it is now suggested that he is on his way to France to undergo a medical. There has been reported interested in Martins from English duo Arsenal and Newcastle United but he now appears to be on his way to the Ligue 1 side.
