Paris Saint-Germain fear that Neymar will miss the second half of the season for the second year in a row. The Brazilian star injured his foot on Wednesday during PSG’s Coupe de France round-of-32 win over Strasbourg. He was sent to a hospital for examination and in a statement PSG have revealed that Neymar hurt the same foot that almost kept him from playing in the World Cup last summer.
Neymar suffered the injury in the second half after a rough challenge from midfielder Moataz Zemzemi. The left winger tried to continue the game but after some treatment he decided to leave the field. After the game Tuchel then confirmed that Neymar was sent to the hospital.
“No, I did not talk to Neymar [after the game] because he’s in the hospital,” Tuchel told Eurosport. “Yes, I’m worried. It’s always complicated [with these kind of injuries]. It’s the same foot and the same metatarsal [as the previous injury].” Neymar missed a great deal of the second half of last season due to a broken bone in his foot.
Later on PSG released a statement, claiming that Neymar has hurt the same foot as he did last year, which kept him out for months. The club stated that all therapeutic options are currently reviewed and that it remains unclear how long Neymar will be sidelined. It is feared though the Brazilian will need surgery, which would end his season.
