Alvaro Morata’s proposed transfer to Atletico Madrid has been delayed due to issues around the loan move for Gelson Martins to AS Monaco, reports Goal.com. The French club have already agreed terms with Atletico to loan Martins for the rest of the season, but the sacking of Thierry Henry has put the brakes on a deal.
While it is believed that both Monaco and Atletico are keen on completing a deal, the transfer could be pushed over the weekend as Monaco are currently finalising the departure of Henry and contracting their third head coach of the season after they already sacked Leonardo Jardim in October.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Chelsea to loan Morata. The Spanish club will pay around €3m to sign the forward on loan, with an option to sign him on a permanent deal during the summer for a reported €45m transfer fee. Atletico, however, will need to create space in their wage budget to complete Morata’s loan.
