West Ham United and Celta de Vigo continue talking over the signing of striker Maxi Gomez, according to Sky Sports. The Spanish club is reluctant to sell the Uruguayan powerhouse in January and are only willing to sell if an interested club triggers his €50m release clause.
Celta Sporting Director Felipe Minambres said earlier: “I believe that we will retain our most important players because it is the intention of the club to be strong. But with the English you never know”, referring to West Ham United.
At first it was believed that West Ham wanted Gomez as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic, who received an offer from China. However, the Hammers want Gomez regardless of the Austrian’s future. A potential deal would see West Ham break their record €40m transfer to sign Felipe Anderson from Lazio in the summer.
