Mehdi Benatia has reportedly rejected a move to Manchester United on Thursday. Instead the Moroccan defender prefers a switch to Qatari club Al-Duhail. The 31-year-old defender filed a transfer request at Juventus earlier this month as he looked for more first team football.
Sportitalia reports that United made an eleventh hour bid for Benatia on Thursday. The Red Devils made an offer worth €10m for the defender, but saw the deal collapse on personal terms. Benatia demanded €4.7 per year, United was not prepared to go beyond €3.7m. As such, the defender is set to move to Al-Duhail on a three-year deal worth €5m-per-season.
Benatia, who enjoyed spells at Bayern Munich and AS Roma before signing for Juventus, has just started five league games this season and was unhappy in Massimo Allegri’s squad. He had been linked with Olympique Marseille and AC Milan, but decided to make a move to Qatar.
