French club Girondins Bordeaux have released a statement denying that they have demanded a fee for missing striker Emiliano Sala following his move to Cardiff City. Sala became Cardiff City’s most expensive player ever in his €20m move from FC Nantes before his plane went missing while he was traveling from Nantes to the Welsh capital on Monday.
While Sala’s family still have little hope that the forward will be found alive, reports emerged that Bordeaux had asked for a fee from Sala’s transfer to Cardiff, which is believed to be around 50% following his spell at the club from 2012 to 2015. The club have now released a statement in which they deny the allegations.
“FC Girondins de Bordeaux formally denies the information published in the Presse Ocean newspaper that the club claimed its ‘due’ on the occasion of the transfer of Emiliano Sala,” Bordeaux said in a statement. In today’s sad circumstances, Girondins de Bordeaux express their support for Emiliano Sala’s family and friends.”
