Spanish side Espanyol have confirmed the signing of Chinese striker Wu Lei, who has joined the club in a transfer from Chinese Super League champions Shanghai SIPG. Wu is the record goal scorer in the Super League, helping his side claim the title last season by scoring a massive 27 goals.
The 27-year-old joins Espanyol on a multi-year deal and clubpresident and Chinese businessman Chen Yansheng has claimed to have seen off interest from various Premier League teams to sign Wu. “The signing of Wu Lei by Espanyol confirms the commitment of president Chen Yansheng and, therefore, of Rastar Group with the project he has been leading for over three years.”
“The president has repeated in his public interventions that this is a long-term project and that his idea is to continue betting firmly on the future of the club.” Wu had been present at the Asian Cup over the past few weeks, losing with China in the quarter finals to Iran. During his team at Shanhai he scored 102 league goals spread over five seasons, claiming the topscorer title in each of those seasons.
