Ivan Rakitic wants to sign a new contract and possibly end his career at FC Barcelona. The 30-year-old Croatian has been a key player for the Blaugranas in the past few seasons, but could be forced towards the exit at the Nou Camp after the club confirmed the signing of Frenkie de Jong for a €86m transfer fee.
Rakitic has been linked with a move to Chelsea ever since Barcelona announced the future transfer of De Jong. Asked if he could be sold, Rakitic said: “It’s a good question for the boss or the president. The people who know me know that I’m only here to play. I face it calmly, with a lot of excitement.”
“I’m 30 and I’m in the best moment of my career. I want to enjoy football and Barca”, Rakitic continued. “I want to be here and, if I can, to renew and be here for many more years. And, before anything else, to have a great season and win a lot of trophies.” Rakitic joined Barcelona in 2014 from Sevilla and has won 12 major trophies since joining the club.
