FC Barcelona are reportedly preparing a new contract offer for Jordi Alba. The 29-year-old has 18 months left on his current contract and the defender recently expressed his concerns that talks for a new deal had not started yet. Barcelona are now believed to be willing to offer Alba a new five-year deal at the club.
The Spain international has been one of Barcelona’s key players over the past few years and reports about a possible exit emerged after contract talks had been pushed forward on more than one occasion. Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has now confirmed that the club wants to keep Alba and an offer will be made soon.
“I want Jordi Alba to stay and I’m sure Ernesto (Valverde) will be here a third season,” he told Mundo Deportivo. “As for Jordi, you know I want him to sign for five more years and retire with us. His future will be sorted soon. We are already preparing for the future with De Jong and Todibo, but Alba is a player for the present as well.” Alba joined Barcelona in 2012 from Valencia and has won 12 titles since joining, including four LaLiga titles and a Champions League.
