West Ham United are close on agreeing a deal with Celta de Vigo that would see Maxi Gomez sign for the Hammers and then joining them next season. The Uruguayan will remain at the Spanish club for the remainder of the season, claims Sky Sports.
Leaving Gomez at Celta for the second half of the season means West Ham are expected to pay less than the proposed €50m release clause. According to the report Gomez will be joining West Ham on a €42.5m deal. The 22-year-old forward has been in good form for Celta this season, scoring nine goals in 18 league games.
West Ham have been long linked to Gomez, who was first considered as a replacement for China-bound Marko Arnautovic. After the Austrian committed his future to the Hammers, Gomez was still high on their wanted list and now the club is ready to confirm the deal for next season.
