According to the Mirror, Chelsea are currently preparing a shock Deadline Day move for Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucouré. The Blues have been looking for an extra central midfielder during the January window to act as cover for Jorginho, but have failed so far. It is now claimed that Doucouré has emerged as a top target.
The French midfielder did not feature in Watford’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, with Javi Garcia insisting Doucouré suffered from a minor knee injury. The report, however, claims that the midfielder was left out as a deal with Chelsea is reportedly close.
Doucouré has been linked with a move away from Watford over the past few months and was heavily linked to Paris Saint-Germain in January. The French giants have secured the signature of Zenit’s Leandro Paredes and have decided not to pursue their interest in the Watford midfielder.
