FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde hopes Philippe Coutinho’s brace against Sevilla gives the Brazilian attacker a boost in confidence. The Brazilian midfielder scored two goals in Barca’s 6-1 trashing of Sevilla on Wednesday as the Blaugranas march on to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who is Barcelona’s most expensive signing ever, has been struggling with his form this season. During the club’s easy win over Sevilla, Coutinho converted an early penalty before adding a second goal to his tally in the second half.
After the game Valverde praised Coutinho: “Leo has given it to him to take and he has taken a great responsibility and made it 1-0,” he said. “I hope the success gives him more confidence.” Coutinho has made 30 appearances for Barcelona this season across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 5 assists.
