Legendary Manchester United striker Andy Cole has been impressed by Mason Greenwood but has concerns following comments about his efforts at training.
Mason Greenwood has been a revelation for Manchester United this season. The 18-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut season with the first team.
Andy Cole is a legend at the club. From his then big-money move from Newcastle to all those goals and his crucial part in the 1999 treble-winning team.
Cole knows what kind of hard work it takes to be the best.
In an interview with Goal, Cole admits the game may have changed tactically but the work and effort required should always be 100%.
“The way Manchester United play now is obviously completely different from my time.”
“I get frustrated sometimes when you see a striker not prepared to make a run.”
Cole remembers when Greenwood first arrived an has been impressed by his talent but insists he must put the work in if he is to fulfill his potential.
“I’ve been very impressed with him.”
“I can remember when he joined as a scholar and I had to do an induction day and everyone was telling me what a player he was going to be.”
“To have seen him do his induction day and then play with the kids and now the first team.”
“You can just see the quality he has. Long may it continue – as long as it doesn’t go to his head.”
“Ole has come out and mentioned that he doesn’t train the best.”
“When you are that age you have to train a little better than you think you are working.”
“You’re young and still learning your trade so you have to give a bit more.”
