FC Barcelona have reportedly opened talks with Riqui Puig and his management to agree a contract extension until the summer of 2023. The 20-year-old midfielder has been tipped as one of the best talents at the club, but has been struggling to find game time in the first team.
Despite his lack of playing time, both Puig and Barcelona have expressed the desire to extend his current deal. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano now claims that both sides have started negotiations and that it is widely expected that a deal will be met in the coming weeks.
After Puig has extended his deal, the midfielder could still be out on his way towards a temporary exit at the Nou Camp. It is believed that Barcelona want to send Puig on loan for a full season, hoping he will develop as a player. In earlier reports Ajax were linked to the talented midfielder, but the Dutch champions are only interested in signing Puig on a full contract instead of a loan deal.
