Lionel Messi adds yet another record for his Barcelona career

Lionel Messi has a wide range of records in his hands. The Argentinian already is the all-time leading goalscorer for FC Barcelona and had tons of other club and league records to his name. After beating Real Mallorca 4-0 on Satruday, Messi has claimed a new La Liga record.

The Spanish league leaders recorded an easy win in their first official game after the league was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Messi scored two goals for Barcelona, bringing his total to 20 goals for the 2019-2020 campaign. With his second goal he became the first player to score 20 or more goals in Spain’s top flight in 12 consecutive seasons.

The 32-year-old’s strong performance against Mallorca also saw him up his total assists to 14, making him both top goalscorer and top assist provider in the current La Liga season. And with the win Barcelona remain on the top position in La Liga with a two point lead over Real Madrid, who beat Eibar 3-1 on Sunday.
