Arsenal target Orkun Kökcü questions Feyenoord: Do they want me to stay?

Arsenal and Sevilla target Orkun Kökcü has dismissed a summer transfer away from Feyenoord. The 19-year-old midfielder had his breakthrough season in the Eredivisie and impressed several clubs all over Europe. Both Arsenal and Sevilla showed interest, but the midfielder told Voetbal International that he prefers to stay at Feyenoord.

“I’m not ready to leave just yet, I’m enjoying myself here, I want to become champion next year”, Kökcü said. After his first full season with the first team Feyenoord would like to offer the midfielder a new deal. “I have had an offer twice now that – with all due respect – wan’t what I’d hoped for. It has been quiet ever since. I don’t know if it’s conscious but sometimes it feels as if the club is stalling the time to sell me later. It feels uncomfortable that there is nothing coming back from them. Does Feyenoord even want me to stay.”

The midfielder realizes that the negotiations are taking place in times of Corona. “I’m aware that clubs are having a hard time, Feyenoord too. But I will also make money for the club if I keep on developing myself. And it is not that I have to become the highest paid player here, not even by far. Just give me the feeling I am an important player in every possible way.”
