RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner will not play for his club when the Champions League returns in August, Sky in Germany has confirmed. The Germany international is expected to leave the Bundesliga club to join Chelsea next season.
Chelsea have already confirmed to RB Leipzig that they are willing to activate Werner’s €60 million release clause and are currently awaiting for the possibility of a medical. Due to the coronavirus limitations Chelsea are having troubles completing the medical and are currently in talks with both the English and German governments for a quick solution.
For Leipzig the absence of Werner could be a big blow. The Germans have already qualified for the quarter finales back on March 10, just before football across Europe was shut down, with a 4-0 aggregate win over Spurs.
