Mario Pasalic has joined Italian side Atalanta on a permanent deal following his two-year loan spell from Chelsea. The Italians decided to activate their option to sign the Croatian midfielder on a permanent deal ahead of next season in their hunt for yet another successful season in the Serie A.
Last season, Pasalic played a major role as Atalanta come third, their highest league finish ever. They were also runners-up in the Coppa Italia. Pasalic has so far played 75 times for the Bergamo-based team, scoring 15 goals. They currently sit fourth in Serie A with 12 games remaining and have recently managed to grab a spot in the quarter finals of the Champions League, beating Valencia 8-3 on aggregate.
The now 25-year-old Pasalic joined Chelsea in 2014 from Hajduk Split. After signing for Chelsea the midfielder was loaned to Elche, AS Monaco, AC Milan and Spartak Moscow during the past few seasons. He leaves Chelsea without playing a single official match for the Blues.
