Big relief for Arsenal and midfielder Matteo Guendouzi as the midfielder has avoided a ban from the English FA. The French youth international grabbed Brighton Hove & Albion striker Neal Maupay by the neck after Maupay scored a late winner against the Gunners on Saturday (2-1).
After the game Maupay and Guendouzi had a struggle, with the midfielder then grabbing his opponent by the neck. A ban for the charge was expected, but the FA have ruled that there will be no further action after the VAR reviewed the incident during the game, not deciding to step in.
The news of Guendouzi avoiding a suspension is a boost for Arsenal, who are already without Granit Xhaka in midfield after the Swiss picked up an injury last week. Arsenal will play in the Premier League again on Thursday when the Gunners face Southampton. It is expected that Guendouzi will start in Mikel Arteta’s side when they take on The Saints.
