Lionel Messi is rumoured to be edging closer to confirming a contract extension with FC Barcelona. The 32-year-old’s current deal will run out at the end of next season and the club has now initiated talks to extend this deal beyond 2021. Barcelona are furiously hoping Messi will end his career with the club.
Marca reports that Barcelona have offered a new two year extension until the summer of 2023. This means Messi will be turning 36 before his contract with the club will end. From there Barcelona would like to add an open ended automatic one-year extension per season as he approaches the end of his career.
According to reports from Marca, the club are currently offering a two year extension until the end of the 2022-23 season, with the Argentinian international set to turn 36 that summer. It is believed that talks between Messi and FC Barcelona are progressing very well and that a deal could be struck before the end of the month.
