Tottenham Hotspur have extended the contracts of both Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm until the end of the 2019-2020 season. Both contracts would have run out on June 30th, but after the agreement they will remain at the club until the final games of the season have been played.
Vertonghen, who failed to agree to sign a new contract over the past season, was expected to leave Tottenham after his current deal would have expired. The Belgian defender has now committed himself to complete the current campaign with Tottenham before he will leave the club on a free transfer.
While the former Ajax defender stated he would be willing to sign a new contract at Tottenham to finish his career with the club, he also stated he would be foolish not to take advantage of his free transfer status and sign a contract in Italy or Spain. Michel Vorm was drafted out of retirement after a serious injury to Hugo Lloris earlier in the season, having left last summer after five years at the club.
