Arsenal have confirmed that David Luiz has signed a new one-year contract extension with the club, while loanees Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari have penned permanent deals with the club. Luiz’s old deal would have run out at the end of June and there were doubts whether the club would offer him a new deal.
The Brazilian has not been in a great form since joining from Chelsea for the Gunners and a series of bad performances, including a sending off after 25 minutes against Manchester City last week. Arsenal, however, have decided to extend his contract for one season, mainly because of the lack of viable alternatives due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The club has also confirmed that loanees Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari have been signed on permanent deals from Southampton and Flamengo. “I am really happy that we will have these players in our squad for the future. They have been part of the long-term technical plan Mikel and I have developed,” technical director Edu stated.
