Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed Lucien Favre will stay on as head coach next season. There were many rumours Dortmund wanted to get rid of the 62-year-old Swiss manager after he failed to lead his team to mount a serious title challenge this season.
“We will go into the next season with the same [management] line-up and want to attack once more,” said Zorc at a press conference on Thursday. “We have a good, trusting relationship and will conduct the talks in due course.” Dortmund will finish in second place in the Bundesliga and are currently 10 points behind champions Bayern Munich.
The German giants enjoyed a good start of the season, leading the pack for a part of the first half of the season. After the winter break Dortmund collapsed and had to see how Bayern would claim their seventh consecutive title. Earlier on former Bayern coach Niko Kovac and current Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag had been eyed up as replacements.
