A big decision in Italy as the Italian Football Association (FIGC) has decided to allow the Women’s Serie to turn profession from the 2022-2023 season. The Serie A Femminile was founded back in 1968, but has always been an amateur championship and was not commissioned by the FIGC until two seasons ago.
The Italian FA also decided that Juventus has been awarded this year’s championship in the Serie A Femminile after it was abruptly ended. The Bianconeri have now won the title three seasons in a row. Fiorentina have now finished in second place, while AC Milan end the season in third position.
The womens department of Napoli have won promotion from the Serie B for the first time in their history. The Serie B will also see its teams increase to 14 next season. The Serie A will keep its total clubs at the same level: 12.
