Reports from Germany claim that Lucien Favre will remain head coach at Borussia Dortmund despite heavy rumours the club wanted to replace him. Bild claim that Favre has successfully convinced the club’s board to keep faith and allow him to stay on for another season at the Bundesliga giants.
After Dortmund lost top spot in the Bundesliga before the winter break rumours emerged that the club had lost their patience with Favre. Dortmund recovered from their lack of form, but ended up ten points behind Bayern Munich, who claimed the title two games before the end of the season.
The club did, however, secure second place behind Bayern to claim qualification for the Champions League. That has apparently convinced sporting director Michael Zorc and CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke to keep their faith in Favre. Earlier on Niko Kovac, who was sacked by Bayern this season, and Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag were linked to the job.
