Dortmund ready to keep off European elite with new contract for 17-year-old wonderkid

Borussia Dortmund are ready to scare off the European elite by offering their 17-year-old wonderkid Giovanni Reyna a new long-term contract with the club. Sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that the Bundesliga club has already started negotiations with the American’s management after his breakout season.

“Lucien and I very much agree about Gio. We believe he has a good and bright future ahead of him,” said Zorc during a press conference. “Weโ€™re in good discussions with him about tying him to Borussia Dortmund for as long as possible as he turns 18. This is a success story that we want to continue.”

The USA U17 international joined Dortmund in 2019 after he spent four years at the New York City FC youth academy. Despite being only 17, Reyna has already featured in 14 Bundesliga games this season and has made two appearances in the Champions League. The youngster has a contract until the summer of 2021, but Dortmund hope to tie him down on a long-term contract.
