Quique Setien’s faith at FC Barcelona might be over before the coach knows it. On Monday morning reports emerged that the club’s board and players have lost confidence in his abilities as a coach and later on the there are rumours that the Barcelona squad has now stated that they want Setien out and club legend Xavi Hernandez in as their new coach.
Setien replaced Ernesto Valverde in January after the former Sevilla boss was sacked after losing against Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa. Since taking the helm at the Camp Nou, Setien has been having difficulties to find his place inside the dressing room. The players don’t have any confidence in his abilities as a manager and now Cadena Ser reports that they have requested the board to take action immediately.
It is believed that the players have requested Setien’s sacking, while they have also requested for Xavi Hernandez to be installed as new Barcelona boss. This is quite remarkable as Xavi was quoted on Monday by Sport that he is currently preparing to make his move as coach of Barcelona after the 2021 elections. It could well be possible that the former Barcelona and Spain midfielder will return in the next few weeks.
