Memphis Depay will be available to play for Olympique Lyon in the final of the Coupe de France and the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Juventus, says Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas. Depay has recently returned to full training after suffering from a knee injury in November.
The former Manchester United forward’s season looked to end after he suffered a serious knee injury and needed surgery. He recovered remarkably quick and appeared to be on track to play in EURO 2020 for the Dutch national team. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, Depay will be able to feature for Lyon again this season.
While the Ligue 1 season has been ended, the France football association will allow the final of the Coupe de France to be played. Due to his quick recovery Depay will be able to play. A big bonus, says Aulas but also a potential problem for Lyon as the Dutch forward has been linked with a move away from Lyon this summer.
“He will play in the finals that await us,” the president told Le Progres. Aulas is aware that a good form from Depay could increase interest even more. “Unhappily, the international transfer window will last until October 13, so we’ve got until then to pick our players.” It is believed AC Milan are seriously interested in signing Depay this summer. The Rossoneri would be willing to pay €60m for Depay.
