Witsel hits out at Dortmund team-mates after Bundesliga ‘horror ending’

Borussia Dortmund experienced a ‘horror ending’ to their Bundesliga on Sunday, losing 4-0 to 1899 Hoffenheim on the final day of the season. After the game Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel was angry with himself and his team-mates and urges Dortmund to do better next season to make a chance against Bayern Munich.

Dortmund has been one of the best scoring teams in the Bundesliga, but conceded 41 goals in 34 games. Their defence is a major concern for Die Borussen and Witsel was angry with his defenders. “There is nothing to explain. They were more aggressive, had more motivation. We didn’t want to end the season like that”, he told Sky Germany.

“It wasn’t enough without a ball. We all have to defend together. If only a few players run and defend, it’s difficult to win a game. We may be the better team on paper, but it is different on the field. Next season we will start the fight with [Bayern Munich] again.” Bayern eventually won the titel with a 13 point lead over Dortmund.
