Arsenal are confident Bukayo Saka will sign a new contract this week, sources at the club have confirmed to Goal. Negotiations between the club and the winger have been ongoing for months and have failed to produce an agreement. According to Goal, the talks have made a huge step forward in the past few days and a deal is close.
The report claims that the final details of the contract are currently being ironed out and Arsenal are even hoping to announce the extension this week. Saka’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2021 and Arsenal feared the talented winger would decide to reject their contract offer to move elsewhere this summer.
The news will be a massive boost to Mikel Arteta, who recently told he was desperate to keep Saka at Arsenal. “The player and family knows how much trust I have in him. He is just showing that every week and his consistency level is getting better and better.” Arteta added: “He has a manager that has total belief in him, he has a club that really supports him and he has team-mates who adore him for who he is.”
UPDATE: Saka signs new long-term contract with Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed that Bukayo Saka has agreed to sign a new long-term contract with the club. The young winger has enjoyed his breakthrough season at the Emirates, making 34 appearances across all competitions. “Bukayo is a talented and intelligent young player”, Mikel Arteta was quoted. “He has impressed me with his work ethic and attitude to learn and adapt, and it has paid off in his performances. I am excited to continue working with him to develop him further, and for him to help us achieve our goals.”
