After his side held FC Barcelona to a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp, Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone had admitted he has lost words for Antoine Griezmann’s current rol at Barcelona. The €120m summer signing was held on the bench for 90 minutes, before coming on the field in the dying seconds of the game.
Griezmann has scored eight goals in La Liga this season, a total that is not even close to his tally at Atletico Madrid. The France international’s last goal was scored back in February against Napoli in the Champions League round of 16. After the game Simeone said about his former striker: “I’m without words.”
At the Nou Camp Diego Costa scored an own goal for Barcelona to take the lead before Saul Niguez equalised the score from a penalty. Five minutes into the second half Lionel Messi converted a penalty of his own, but a second Atletico penalty in the 62nd minute secured a draw for Atletico.
“We are respectful of Barcelona with the quality they have,” Simeone said. “The game was played as a result of what we usually do. We started well. Their goal came in an isolated play. Then to generate a difficult game against a team that keep the ball well. We tried until the end. The work was very good, a very competitive team. I’m happy.”
