Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer, according to The Athletic. The report points to the €50m release clause in the midfielders contract and the Gunners are preparing to open negotiations with Atletico to go down on that figure.
Meanwhile, Atletico are still hoping to have Partey sign a new multi-year contract which would increase his release clause by a significant amount. While Partey is still under contract until the summer of 2023, Atletico are keen on extending that deal until at least 2025 and also to double his release clause to €100m.
Arsenal are hoping to sign Partey before he agrees on signing a new deal at Atletico. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Ghanaian and wants to add him to his squad to make a return into the top four of the Premier League next season. Partey has made 177 first-team appearances for Atletico and the midfielder is considered a first-team regular.
