Mikel Arteta is confident that Arsenal will wrap up the contract extension of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners’ star forward has been in talks with the club for months to extend his contract beyond it’s current 2021 expire date, without reaching an agreement. While rumours of Aubameyang’s future increase, Arteta remains confident.
“He is willing to stay with us,” Arteta said on Thursday. “He is really happy where he is. He can see what we are trying to do and hopefully he can evolve as well some parts of his game he might feel he can improve. We are pushing him every day. I leave that to the football club and the senior people that finalise the contracts.”
Meanwhile, Aubameyang has been linked with numerous clubs in the past few weeks. At first Real Madrid showed interest to sign the forward as a back-up for Karim Benzema. Later on Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain joined the list, while FC Barcelona have also been put forward as a possible destination. The Spanish giants are keen on Lautaro Martinez, but have marked Aubameyang as an alternative.
