Quique Setien is not qualified enough to be the head coach at a big club like FC Barcelona, says former Blaugrana Christophe Dugarry. While Barcelona started as the league leaders at the return of La Liga in June, the Spanish giants have lost top spot to Real Madrid after three draws in four games. Dugarry feels Setien is the one to blame.
Barcelona will now need Real Madrid to drop points in at least two of their six remaining games in La Liga to win the title. But Dugarry is not confident Setien will be able to motivate and coach his team to go all the way and put pressure on Madrid. “This is a coach who is completely out of his depth,” Dugarry told RMC.
“Setien is very nice, but he’s not at that level. He doesn’t know what changes to make. He replaced Sergio Busquets in the 85th minute with Ansu Fati and only put on Antoine Griezmann in the 90th minute. He doesn’t know how to make his team play. He’s completely overwhelmed.”
The situation with Griezmann is highlighted by Dugarry. Setien allowed him but seconds of play against Atletico. “I’m sure that he’s got nothing against Griezmann, but it’s just that Setien is incompetent,” Dugarry explained. “Griezmann was the victim this time, but it could have happened to another player. He doesn’t know how to bring new vibrancy when the team does not find a solution.”
