Mikel Arteta keeps having faith in Mesut Ozil, despite not picking the German for his match squads since the return of the Premier League in June. The Spanish coach told reporters that a player wit Ozil’s qualities will always have a place at Arsenal regardless of what system they play.
Arsenal played in a 3-4-3 formation against Norwich City (4-0 win), a formation that does not use a number 10 like Ozil, but Arteta thinks the German could still be useful. “I think players can adapt to different systems and we can adapt systems for different players,” said Arteta.
“Sometimes it’s not just about what we want to play or how we want to play. Sometimes we have to try to fit the players we have available in the right moments in the right positions to perform and be comfortable on the pitch to do what we require them to do. There’s always a place for a player of his [Ozil’s] quality.”
