Lionel Messi is reportedly unhappy at FC Barcelona at the moment. Several Spanish outlets reported that the Argentinian forward has stopped negotiations on a new deal with the club and that has brought his future at the Nou Camp in serious doubt. ESPN now suggests that Messi could even leave the club this summer and Manchester City are monitoring the situation.
Manchester City have been long-linked with a move for Messi but a move has never been pushed through. However, with the recent rumours of Messi being very unhappy with his club at the moment, City might finally make an offer for the Argentinian. According to Christian Martin, the possibility of Messi signing for Man City this summer is ‘very real’.
Messi has a contract until the summer of 2021 and it has always been expected that the 33-year-old would end his career with the Catalan club. But, with Messi being reportedly unhappy with the ‘leaking’ to the media, it is claimed that the forward has stopped negotiations for a new deal with immediate effect.
And Man City could prove to be the best destination for Messi to go to. Pep Guardiola is the manager, former Barcelona director Txiki Begiristain is City’s director of football and Sergio Aguero, one of Messi’s best friends are all at the Etihad Stadium. If there was ever a perfect moment for City to finally land their dream forward, this summer might be the one.
