Former Barcelona president worried about possible Lionel Messi exit

Former FC Barcelona president Sandro Rossel says he is worried that Lionel Messi might actually be leaving the club. On Friday reports emerged that the Argentinian club captain has stopped negotiations for a new contract because he is ‘fed up’ with the constant ‘leaking’ of the club to the media. While rumours on a Barcelona exit have always existed, these latest rumours have shocked the world and could be true.

“If Messi leaves Barcelona it will be very complicated for the club,” Rosell – who was in office as club president between the summer of 2010 and January 2014 – explained in an interview with ESPN Deportes. “Everything has to change in terms of the formation and the style of play on the pitch, but also how the club works behind the scenes and the market aspects.”

“I hope Messi stays at the club for a lot of years to come because there is no replacement for him, there is no other player like him who exists.” Messi’s current deal at Barcelona runs out in 2021 and several clubs have already been alerted by the possible exit of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. Juventus and Manchester City have been put forward as possible destinations for Messi if he decides to leave Barcelona.
