Mario Mandzukic has decided to terminate his contract with Al-Duhail. The 34-year-old forward moved to the Qatari club in December after he dropped down the pecking order at Juventus behind Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain. Mandzukic is a free agent now and it is expected that he will return to Europe.
Mandzukic announced his departure from Al-Duhail on social media: “I appreciate the trust and hospitality that I have received in Qatar and I wish the best to the club and the team in the future.” The experienced forward has been linked with a move to the Premier League before, with Manchester United interested last October.
A return to the Serie A could also be an option for Mandzukic. Recently promoted Benevento are very ambitious and have already signed former Chelsea forward Loic Remy for next season. Other possible destinations are AC Milan and the Turkish duo Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.
